WILLOW PANEL
MULTIPLE MEDIUM

This is a multi-media  work- copper, stained glass, wood framing, and painting. The inner panel is of hammered, edged copper and stained glass; the middle frame and outer panel are gessoed and painted with water colors.
The finished panel will be displayed on a brick chimney, and thus will require lighting. I have chosen to use low voltage led strip lighting directly on the back of the inner frame,; controlled by an external dimmer switch.
The glass and copper inner piece is framed by zinc channel inside painted oak molding. The inner piece is surrounded by a 4" painted frieze, which is in turn framed with Oak.
A tracing is made of an element of the first layout, and applied to sheet copper. The copper is cut to shape and hammered for form and texture.
This treatment is experimental.  I was not able to find another instance of the use of broad expanses of hammered copper with stained glass.
In order to make the copper structurally strong enough to prevent flexing, I added a copper wire rolled up around all the edges of the hammered copper.
